Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Social Welfare Advocate in Welkom to support individuals and families in navigating social systems and accessing services. You will champion client rights, provide guidance, and connect clients with resources within the Community & Social Care domain.

The role requires understanding of social justice issues and a commitment to empowering vulnerable populations in Welkom. Travel within the service area may be needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Law, Public Administration or related field.
• Experience in advocacy, social work or client support, preferably in Free State area.
• Thorough knowledge of social welfare laws, policies, and procedures in South Africa.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities.
• Ability to work with diverse backgrounds with empathy and respect.
• Proficiency in MS Office and case management systems.
• Commitment to social justice and human rights.
• Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within Welkom service area.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct advocacy services to clients, helping them understand rights and entitlements.
• Conduct needs assessments and develop personalised support plans.
• Collaborate with government agencies, legal services and other support organisations.
• Educate clients and communities about rights and resources.
• Assist clients with completing applications for benefits and services.
• Maintain confidential client records and track progress.
• Identify barriers to access and advocate for policy change.
• Research relevant social welfare issues and legislation.
• Facilitate support groups and community outreach initiatives.
• Offer emotional support and guidance throughout the advocacy process.
