Job summary

Champaign County Sheriff's Office seeks a Data Analyst on-site to perform tactical, strategic, and administrative analysis using secure databases and GIS to identify crime trends and relationships. You will create reports and presentations for multiple units, operating under general supervision.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least two years of analytic experience; GIS/ESRI knowledge and Adobe design tools are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, GIS, information systems, statistics, or related fields.
• Two years of experience performing research and statistical analysis.
• Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience.
• (Preferred) Experience in law enforcement analytics.
• (Preferred) Certification as Certified Law Enforcement Analyst.
• (Preferred) GIS knowledge and ESRI products.
• (Preferred) Experience with graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop.

Responsibilities

• Supports community policing strategy as envisioned by the Champaign County Sheriff's Office.
• Plans and conducts reviews on crime, traffic, homeland security, resource allocation, grants, and demographics.
• Uses criminal intelligence techniques to analyze patterns of crimes and offenders.
• Responds to ad hoc requests from the Sheriff and Command staff.
• Prepares statistical and narrative reports with data interpretation and recommendations.
• Develops presentations for office members, other agencies, and the public.
• Participates in major case investigations and multi‑agency task forces.
• Develops operational programs, policies, and procedures.
• Performs quality control checks of crime databases and maintains documentation.
• Trains police employees in intelligence capabilities.
