Job summary

Hooper Corporation, a long-standing electric power and mechanical contractor, seeks a Safety Specialist to ensure construction safety across complex sites. You’ll develop site safety plans, audit compliance, and lead safety initiatives with client teams and Hooper safety staff.

Responsibilities include monitoring performance, conducting walks, trainings, and incident investigations, and stopping work for hazards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, safety, or related discipline preferred.
• 3 to 5 years of full-time experience in project health & safety support and leadership.
• 5 to 10 years of experience in construction project safety and health leadership may substitute for degree.
• Competency in OSHA requirements regarding Crane, Derrick, and Hoist Safety.
• Competency in OSHA requirements regarding excavation standards at 29 CFR Part 1926, Subpart P.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), CHST, CSMC or equivalent preferred.
• OSHA 10 and 30-hour construction training completed preferred.
• Strong initiative, problem-solving and communication skills, attention to detail.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Routinely monitor safety performance to ensure compliance with Hooper and client requirements.
• Provide current data on safety performance, trends, incidents, and metrics for decision-making.
• Facilitate site safety meetings and notices to communicate safety information on site.
• Conduct regular site safety walks with client representatives and other contractors.
• Address non-compliance issues promptly with stakeholders.
• Participate in progress and schedule meetings and client trainings.
• Evaluate Site Specific Safety Plans for regulatory conformance.
• Ensure PPE availability, maintenance, and sanitation, and verify communications systems.
• Lead daily safety briefings and oversee equipment maintenance and decontamination procedures.
• Have authority to stop work for imminent hazards and resume after client approval.
• Perform safety observations, audits, and incident/near-miss investigations.
• Maintain training records and complete required certifications.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
