Job summary

Southeast Georgia Health System is seeking a Full-Time Billing and Coding Specialist to join the Cancer Care Center team in Brunswick, GA. You will perform charges and coding tasks within a patient-care framework, aligning with safety policies and regulatory requirements.

The role involves end-of-treatment procedures, billing inquiries, and ensuring timely, accurate coding across ICD-10-CM, CPT, APCs, and DRGs, with collaboration across departments to support patient financial services.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of secretarial experience; clerical experience in medical/business office preferred.
• Credentialed Coding Professional, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CCS-P.

Responsibilities

• Completes end of treatment procedures including charge reviews and chart audits.
• Receives and answers inquiries from patients, insurance companies, and other parties regarding charges and/or billing discrepancies in an effective and professional manner, including all internal and external billing and coding requests.
• Effectively monitors billing reports to avoid inappropriate delays in coding and billing.
• Effectively communicates current and revised coding changes and clarifications to Medical Staff and department leadership.
• Stays abreast of current ambulatory surgery coding, billing, and reimbursement issues.
• Provides patient scheduling coordination and assistance as necessary.
• Responsible for a variety of financial duties including reviewing daily charges, payment posting, adjustment posting, patient financial counseling.
• Accurately assigns and/or reviews ICD-10-CM, CPT code, APC’s and DRG’s on all applicable patient encounters.
• Maintains the medical record system: establishes, retrieves and files patient records.
• Works with Patient Financial Services department in the review and correction of claims that fail the pre-billing editing screens.
• Actively participates in the ongoing education of ancillary departments and Medical Staff members regarding coding regulations.
