Job summary

American Oncology Network is seeking a detail-oriented medical coder to verify surgical and hospital claims processed through EMR and Centricity. You will ensure documentation is complete and that physicians in your area comply with dictations and patient treatment records.

You will code procedures and diagnoses for each patient, enter all billable charges into the billing system, and work with the site to obtain required documentation for review.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of five years of medical coding experience preferred.
• Two years of ICD & Oncology CPT Coding in oncology is preferred.
• Experience in healthcare settings (clinical or business office).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
• Centricity EMR experience preferred, especially oncology modules.

Responsibilities

• Process surgical and hospital claims through EMR and Centricity, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Ensure proper documentation is on file and available for review.
• Assign medical codes for general surgery procedures for records and billing.
• Enter all billable charges into the billing system.
• Escalate trends and documentation issues to the manager for discussion.

Ensure all physicians in assigned area of responsibility are complaint with dictations, and documentation with patient’s treatment. To ensure all assigned charts are coded and billed out daily. Assigns medical codes for general surgery procedures for medical records and billing purposes. As part of your duties, you look at medical records and information and assign codes for each procedure and diagnosis for each patient. Ensure that all billable charges are entered into billing system. Work with site to ensure that all required documentation is obtained for review process. Escalate any trend and documentation issues to manager for discussion.

• Experience with working in a healthcare field and in a clinical setting or business office.
• Excellent verbal and communications skills are essential.
• Procedure entry with experience in operative report extraction and coding guidelines are preferred.
• Education to stay current with all CPT and ICD9/ ICD10 yearly updates is required.
• AAPC Coding Certification (CPC or ROCC coding certification) including in the designated area of oncology coding is strongly preferred.
• Individuals who do not hold this certification must obtain within two (1) year of being assigned to this position.
• Centricity experience preferred. Experience in designated oncology EMR is preferred.
