Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Satellite On-Orbit Operations Software Engineer (Starlink) in Washington to design and deploy software that scales the operation of thousands of satellites. You will bridge software and hardware, automate fault detection, and enable real-time responses to keep millions of users connected.

Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, GNC, and network engineers to deliver high‑performance, reliable systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (CS/CE/EE/ aerospace etc.).
• 1+ years of professional software development experience (Python and/or C++ preferred; SQL/Bash valuable).
• Experience building software that interacts with hardware (robotics, embedded systems, control systems, test automation).

Responsibilities

• Develop and rapidly deploy software that automates fault detection, response, and operational workflows.
• Build and improve ground software systems that manage vehicle state and real-time commands.
• Develop processes and automation for new hardware versions and satellite capabilities.
• Detect and triage anomalies on satellite bus and payload hardware; rotate on-call schedule.
• Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, electrical, GNC, network, and test engineers to deliver high-performance systems.
• Challenge assumptions and find simple solutions to complex problems.
