Job summary

Western New Mexico University is seeking a Junior Network Administrator to support the university’s network infrastructure, provide second-tier connectivity and security troubleshooting, and assist with project implementations. This full-time, on-campus position offers hands-on experience in a university IT environment.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, with preference for a bachelor’s in CS or related field, Cisco certification, and bilingual Spanish skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field preferred.
• Telecom certification/licensure preferred.
• Cisco certification preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitors server and network performance, logs, and reports problems and resolves issues.
• Assists with network installation and maintenance, configuring and deploying switches, routers, access points, and other network hardware under supervision.
• Assists Director of Network Operations in implementing technical projects across the University.
• Supports wireless network management, including ClearPass configurations and updates, wireless controller, and AP troubleshooting.
• Helps develop and implement integrated project plans, schedules, and cost estimates for short-, mid-, and long-term projects.
• Provides second-tier troubleshooting for network connectivity, VoIP, and system access issues; escalates complex problems as needed.
• Assists in analyzing trends in reported issues and devises preventive solutions.
• Documents network changes and procedures with accurate records of configurations and modifications.
• Manages user access to network resources, including VLAN configurations, IP assignments, and ACLs under supervision.
• Assists Telecommunications Manager and User Support Director with installations, deployments, or related field work.
