Job summary

Chapman University is seeking an Assistant Director of Membership Experience and Events to lead membership groups, organize events, and drive fundraising initiatives on campus. The role partners with campus stakeholders and Advancement colleagues to enhance the member experience and expand philanthropic support.

The position reports to the AVP of Constituent Engagement and requires a Bachelor’s degree with at least three years in nonprofit or higher education event planning, plus strong

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and minimum of three years professional experience in event planning in a nonprofit or higher education setting.
• Volunteer management experience required; experience with governing boards strongly desired.
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.
• Knowledge and skill to assist in the development of collateral and other materials, with an ability to manage social media platforms.
• Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Serve as staff liaison for university-affiliated membership groups and their volunteer boards, committees, and members (Women of Chapman; Town & Gown).
• Drive group development and growth through recruitment, retention, fundraising, and engagement programs.
• Collaborate with University Advancement to increase group membership and align philanthropic interests with priorities.
• Advise leaders on board development, governance best practices, and alignment with university priorities.
• Provide operational oversight of membership group finances, contracts, expenses, budgeting, and reporting.
• Ensure gifts and financial transactions are documented and compliant with policies.
