Job summary

American Preparatory Academy in Cedar City, UT seeks a Substitute Teacher to fill in when teachers are absent. Availability for at least 4 days per month is required; substitutes are called in advance when possible.

You will teach reading, math, and spelling groups and supervise students during lunch, recess, and transitions between activities. You will join the DIBELS Assessment Team during K–6 assessments and assist Administration with DIBELS benchmark assessments.

Qualifications

• Be prepared to substitute with short notice and respond promptly.
• Commitment to at least 4 days per month.
• Ability to balance home, family, work and school responsibilities.
• Excellent work ethic and reliability.
• WillIngness to ask questions and follow directions.
• Positive attitude and sense of humor under stress.
• Willing to travel between campuses to fill vacancies.

Responsibilities

• Attend Direct Instruction training in the summer.
• Accept opportunity to sub at least 4 days each month, when in session or as needed.
• Prepare to teach reading, math, and spelling groups when called in advance.
• Read scripts, prepare copies, ask questions.
• Follow teacher instructions left for you.
• Maintain American Prep classroom management standards.
• Keep data and records in Data Binder.
• Supervise lunch and recess.
• Report problems to homeroom teacher or staff.
• Attend meetings when applicable.
• Work closely with staff to ensure student safety and engagement.
