Job summary

Catholic Community Services of Western Washington is seeking an on-call Shelter Staff member for Bertha’s Place, a 62-unit shelter serving diverse populations. The role involves supervising a secure, welcoming environment, facilitating access to services, and coordinating meals with volunteers.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, background checks, and TB testing. Training includes Motivational Interviewing and behavior management skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must obtain Food Handler’s card within first 3 months of employment.
• Experience with diverse populations is a plus.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Must pass background checks and TB test.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe, welcoming environment for shelter guests and staff.
• Monitor front door and surrounding area to control access.
• Develop supportive relationships with guests using motivational interviewing.
• Respond to crises, medical emergencies, and disruptive behavior.
• Provide behavioral management for diverse populations including those with chemical dependency or mental health issues.
• Prepare timely incident or ban reports as needed.
• Offer information and resources to guests and coordinate meals with volunteers.
• Help maintain facility health and safety and monitor guest rooms.
