Job summary

Bertha’s Place is a 62-unit, non-congregate shelter serving diverse populations in Washington. This on-call role supports shelter operations, safety, and guest services, including behavioral management and crisis response. Training includes Motivational Interviewing and collaboration with community partners.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package and a chance to help residents regain permanent housing. A valid driver’s license and background checks are required to begin employment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must obtain Food Handler’s card within first 3 months of employment.
• Pass required background checks prior to offer; TB test required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe, welcoming environment for shelter guests and staff.
• Monitor front door and surrounding area to ensure only residents or authorized personnel enter.
• Develop supportive relationships using motivational interviewing.
• Respond to guests in crisis or medical emergencies.
• Provide behavioral management for diverse population including those with chemical dependency or mental health issues.
• Write timely incidents reports when incidents occur.
• Provide services, resources, and information to guests.
• Coordinate with volunteers and partners to provide food and meals.
