Job summary

Madison Elementary School District Madison Maintenance and Transportation Dept. in Phoenix is seeking a Substitute Bus Driver on call. The role requires a CDL and AZ School Bus Certification, fingerprint clearance, and CPR/First Aid certification to transport students safely and maintain records.

The candidate should be able to read gauges and maps, follow routes, and ensure student safety while adhering to SDS safety regulations. Work involves after-hours athletic events when needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CDL and Arizona School Bus Certification required.
• DPS fingerprint clearance card required.
• First aid and CPR certification required.
• Understand students and be dedicated to their safety.
• Knowledge of state/local vehicle regulations for school transportation.
• Complete reports and read gauges, routes and maps.
• Knowledge of safety regulations in SDS related to hazardous chemicals.
• Comply with state and federal physical requirements.
• Relate well to students, staff and the public.

Responsibilities

• Transport students safely to/from school, field trips and events.
• Maintain a safe driving record.
• Administer first aid/CPR if needed.
• Perform pre- and post-bus inspections and maintain assigned bus for safety and cleanliness.
• Report bus malfunctions in writing to supervisor.
• Maintain an accurate daily mileage log.
• Supervise students using PBIS and CPI strategies.
• Report student misconduct to supervisor and assistant principal.
• Review routes and stay familiar with routes, policy changes, and regulations.
• Follow assigned routes and recommend changes to router/dispatcher.
• Handle chemicals on the job as needed (e.g., cleaners, fuels).
• Be prepared to work after hours for sports and field trips.
• Contribute to team with other duties as assigned.
