Job summary

The Safety Technician will support the Safety Manager and department managers to ensure a safe working environment throughout the Travis Association for the Blind/Austin Lighthouse facilities. This position will assist with first response to medical situations, showing care and compassion to team members.

Responsibilities include investigating accidents, coordinating trainings, conducting safety meetings, monthly inspections, maintaining safety data sheets, and updating emergency plans to

Qualifications

• Associate degree or OSHA 10/30 preferred
• Will substitute a combination of college and work experience
• First Aid certification a plus
• CPR certification a plus
• Forklift certification a plus

Responsibilities

• Investigate accidents to identify causes and determine prevention
• Assist with and manage day-to-day safety and security operations
• Schedule and conduct trainings and monthly safety meetings
• Conduct monthly safety inspections on facility health and safety equipment
• Remain on call during business hours for on-site injuries and emergencies
• Manage inventory of first aid supplies, PPE and replenishes as needed
• Maintain and ensure safety data sheets are up to date
• Recommend measures to protect workers from hazards
• Inspect work environments for compliance with safety standards and regs
• Provide new employee health and safety orientations and develop training presentations
• Maintain and update emergency response plans or procedures
• Inspect areas to ensure fire prevention equipment and PPE presence
• Modify or suspend activities that threaten health or safety
• Adhere to TAB policies and core values
• Other duties as assigned
