Job summary

National EMR seeks reservist respiratory therapists to support disaster response and medical services during deployments. Reservists are deployed within 24–48 hours and are paid for actual hours worked. Roles are not full-time; assignments vary by incident and skill set.

The position emphasizes readiness, flexibility, and teamwork, with opportunities to contribute to hurricane responses, mass casualty events, wildfires, and other emergencies across the United States.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduation from accredited Respiratory Therapist Program required.
• Current CRT certificate required; cannot be barred from working in any state.
• RRT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Understand and adhere to the National EMR Policies and Procedures Manual, Uniform Handbook, and Operations Manual.
• Foster a culture that encourages team members to work safely, identify potential hazards, and report safety concerns immediately to their direct chain of command.
• Maintain active status within the agency's platforms, including learning management systems to complete training that may be directed toward self-improvement, mission-specifics, or Just-In-Time (JIT) training.
• Responsible for administering respiratory tests and treatment to clients.
• Cleaning and sterilizing respiratory therapy equipment and performing operational maintenance.
• Communicate and collaborate with appropriate medical staff as needed.
• Assist with process improvement in reviewing, writing and updating respiratory protocols and procedures in collaboration with Medical Services Division.
• Effectively communicate, consult and interact with the RN Manager/Clinic Director on policy and procedure issues affecting the quality of respiratory services.
• Meets patient's goals and needs and provides quality care by conducting pulmonary function tests; assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining respiratory therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians and by prescription.
• Helps patient accomplish treatment plan and supports life by administering inhalants; operating mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
• Administers respiratory therapy treatments by performing bronchopulmonary drainage; assisting with breathing exercises; monitoring physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, and blood chemistry changes.
• Evaluates effects of respiratory therapy treatment plan by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress; recommending adjustments and modifications.
• Other duties as assigned.
