Job summary

Qualifications

• 1 year phlebotomy experience in acute or non-acute care.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• California Phlebotomy Technician II or I certificate required.
• Demonstrated ability to perform duties at satisfactory level.
• Note: SCPMG Regional Reference Lab does not require phlebotomy certification.
• Preferred: relevant college courses in life sciences.

Responsibilities

• Upholds Kaiser Permanente policies, procedures, principles of responsibilities and applicable laws.
• Selects appropriate phlebotomy technique relative to patient age.
• Assesses the quality of blood based on patient age and test.
• Performs venipuncture, finger stick or heel stick as required.
• Labels samples correctly and transports to the lab.
• Performs pre-analytical steps including bar coding, centrifuging, logging and staining as needed.
• Monitors inventory levels of supplies and reagents.
• Establishes courteous relations with patients and staff.
• Performs additional duties such as checking in patients and giving preparation instructions.
• Handles difficult patients professionally.
• Maintains professionalism in attitude and appearance.
• Follows directives from supervisors and seniors.
• May assume other activities as directed.
