Job summary

Opelousas General Health System is seeking a Medical Technologist (PRN) to perform high-complexity testing across blood bank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology, urinalysis and phlebotomy. Daily tasks include data entry, QA, and communication of critical results to physicians and nursing staff.

The role requires an associate degree in medical technology or related field, with a bachelor’s degree preferred, and LSBME CLS-Generalist or CLS-Technician licensure.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in medical technology or related science required.
• Bachelor's degree in medical technology or biological science preferred.
• Licensure by LSBME CLS-Generalist or CLS-Technician required.

Responsibilities

• Perform all aspects of patient care in a clinical laboratory across multiple disciplines.
• Verify questionable results and repeat procedures as needed.
• Enter analysis data into computer systems with accuracy.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment safely.
• Monitor and establish quality assurance programs for accurate results.
• Provide test result information to physicians and researchers.
• Perform phlebotomy as needed and collect samples.
• Notify staff of critical lab values with proper documentation.
• Interact professionally with the Laboratory Manager, Pathologist and colleagues.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
