Shalom House in Portland, Maine, seeks a Maintenance Technician to keep our supportive housing facilities safe and well‑maintained. The role covers plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry work, with on‑site duties across Portland and surrounding areas.

You will perform inspections, respond to requests from residents and staff, and maintain accurate records of work orders while adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must live within 30 minutes of the Maine Office in Portland for on-call purposes.
• Previous experience in building maintenance or a related field preferred.
• Strong knowledge of maintenance techniques and procedures.
• Basic proficiency in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry work.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Compassionate, respectful attitude toward individuals living with mental illness.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks, including stooping, bending, and standing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular property inspections to identify and address maintenance needs or safety hazards.
• Perform various maintenance and repair tasks, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry work.
• Respond to maintenance requests from residents and staff, prioritizing urgent issues.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders and inventory.
• Ensure all safety regulations and procedures are followed.
• Assist with coordinating larger maintenance projects, such as renovations and upgrades.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours emergency maintenance needs.
