Job summary

Shalom House in Portland, Maine, seeks a Maintenance Technician to keep our supportive housing facilities safe and well‑maintained. The role covers plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry work, with on‑site duties across Portland and surrounding areas.

You will perform inspections, respond to requests from residents and staff, and maintain accurate records of work orders while adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must live within 30 minutes of the Maine Office in Portland for on-call purposes.
• Previous experience in building maintenance or a related field preferred.
• Strong knowledge of maintenance techniques and procedures.
• Basic proficiency in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry work.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Compassionate, respectful attitude toward individuals living with mental illness.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks, including stooping, bending, and standing.

As a Maintenance Technician, you will be a key member of our team, ensuring our housing facilities remain well-maintained and comfortable for the people we serve. In this role, you will perform a wide range of maintenance tasks, addressing everything from plumbing and electrical work to HVAC and carpentry. We’re looking for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and dedicated to providing high-quality service in a meaningful way.

Key Responsibilities:
