Job summary

WM is seeking a Gas Operations Technician I to operate and maintain landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS) at our site. You will ensure regulatory compliance and optimize performance by calibrating data collection devices and managing field data.

This entry-level role requires a valid driver’s license and offers hands-on training, including the WM Landfill Gas Technician I program, with on-call responsibilities and safety-focused operations.

Qualifications

• No experience required for this entry-level role.
• Must have a valid and unrestricted driver’s license.
• Experience in environmental fieldwork, construction, electrical, mechanical, or other hands-on work environments preferred.
• Working knowledge of gas collection systems, pumps, blowers, or flare systems preferred.
• Technical or trade school training in environmental science, mechanical systems, instrumentation, or related field recommended.
• Experience with PVC/HDPE piping and data logging systems is a plus.
• Able to work independently in field environments.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain GCCS to ensure regulatory compliance and optimize performance.
• Calibrate and maintain data collection devices for LFG from wellfield.
• Collect and manage data from wellfield extraction and monitoring locations.
• Implement the GCCS preventative maintenance plan.
• Maintain liquid management system pumps and troubleshoot liquid levels.
• Adjust valves and vacuum, collect data, and interpret results.
• Use PVC or HDPE piping materials for maintenance.
• Complete WM Landfill Gas Technician I Training.
• Develop understanding of environmental regulations related to GCCS.
• Follow health and safety procedures; on-call for GCCS malfunctions.
