Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Chaplain to provide spiritual care to patients, families, and hospital staff, aligning with our mission and compliance program. This role supports holistic patient care through counseling, prayer, and religious services.

The chaplain delivers education on Advanced Directives, leads spiritual care services, and serves as a liaison between hospital and community. On-call duties include nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in theology, religion, pastoral care, spiritual care, or divinity from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and experience
• At least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or in process of completing one unit of CPE within 90 days of hire date

Responsibilities

• Delivers a ministry of spiritual care, counseling, consultation, worship, prayer, sacraments, and spiritual/emotional support to patients, families, and staff
• Identifies ethical dilemmas and escalates findings per site policy
• Leads interdisciplinary clinical team activities related to planning and coordinating patient care
• Provides end of life support and bereavement support
• Educates patients and staff on Advanced Directives including Power of Attorney for Healthcare
• Develops and leads spiritual care services within the hospital
• Serves as spiritual liaison between hospital and community with HIPAA-compliant referrals
• Escalates concerns following NM chain of command policies
• Offers religious services to staff as requested
• Accepts on-call for spiritual care coverage including nights/weekends/holidays
• Participates in CALM/Mindful Moments as assigned
• Attends to cultural and spiritual dynamics to improve patient/family care
• Maintains chapel/sacred spaces and supplies
• Maintains board certification and CEU requirements
• Performs other duties as assigned by Manager of Spiritual Care
