Job summary

Hospice of North Alabama is seeking an experienced on-call RN to join our Decatur, AL team. The role involves after-hours home care, urgent symptom management, and close coordination with physicians to ensure compassionate, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities include documenting care accurately, pronouncing death when needed, and supporting families during difficult times in a home or facility setting.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school with current licensure in Alabama.
• 1 year nursing experience required, 3+ years preferred.
• Hospice or similar setting experience preferred.
• Knowledge of hospice philosophy of care.
• Commitment to clinical and documentation excellence.
• Must be a licensed driver with insured vehicle in good working order.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Remote Triage On Call Team to deliver hands-on hospice care after hours.
• Assess and manage urgent symptoms quickly and compassionately.
• Administer medication or adjust care per hospice protocols or orders.
• Communicate with the physician regarding changes in condition and obtain orders as needed.
• Explain current condition and next steps to patient and family.
• Provide support if a death occurs during on-call hours, including pronouncing death and notifying the hospice team.
• Complete timely documentation and communication.
