Job summary

Hospice of North Alabama is seeking an on-call RN to provide 1:1 end-of-life care in Decatur and surrounding counties. This role supports patients and families during after-hours, with autonomy and team collaboration.

You will assess symptoms, administer medications, chart thoroughly, and communicate changes to the physician. A nursing degree and state licensure are required; hospice experience preferred, driving required, and a 7 days on / 7 days off schedule offered, with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school with current licensure to practice in state of operation.
• One year nursing experience required, 3+ years preferred.
• Experience in hospice or a similar setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Remote Triage On Call Team to deliver hands-on care during after-hours in hospice settings.
• Assess and manage urgent symptoms quickly and compassionately.
• Administer medications or adjust care based on hospice protocols or provider orders.
• Communicate with the physician regarding changes in condition and obtain orders as necessary.
• Offer guidance and support to patient and family in understanding current condition and next steps.
• If a death occurs during on-call hours, pronounce death, provide family support, notify hospice team and arrange next steps.
• Complete timely documentation and communication.
