Job summary

Hospice of North Alabama is seeking an On-Call Registered Nurse to join our Decatur team. This role provides compassionate end-of-life care during after-hours, collaborating with our remote triage on-call team to support patients and families.

You will assess urgent symptoms, administer medications per hospice protocols, and communicate with the physician as needed. A valid nursing license and insured vehicle are required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school with current licensure to practice in state of operation.
• 1 year nursing experience required, 3+ years preferred.
• Experience in hospice or a similar setting preferred; knowledge of hospice philosophy.
• Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state requirements.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Remote Triage On Call Team to deliver hands-on care to hospice patients and offer supportive services to their families during after-hours, on an on-call basis
• Assess and manage urgent symptoms quickly and compassionately
• Administer medication or adjust care based on hospice protocols or provider orders
• Communicate with the physician regarding changes in condition and obtain orders as necessary
• Offer guidance and support to the patient and family in understanding the current condition and anticipating the next steps
• If a death occurs during on-call hours, pronounce death, provide support to the family, contact the funeral home, and notify the hospice team
• Complete timely documentation and communication
