Job summary

The City of El Paso Texas is seeking a part-time, contract Hearing Officer to preside over employee disciplinary/grievance appeals. Assignments are made as needed based on case volume.

Residency within the City of El Paso city limits is required by the effective date. Under direction from the Civil Service Commission, you will conduct disciplinary hearings, arbitrate appeals, and write decisions involving local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Qualifications

• Licensed and in good standing with the Texas State Bar.
• Five years of experience practicing general law, preferably in labor relations and employment law.
• Experience before federal, state or local administrative agencies in evidentiary hearings.

Responsibilities

• Conduct disciplinary hearings, arbitrate appeals and grievances.
• Prepare and present findings and decisions in accordance with applicable laws and city rules.
• Organize pre-hearing meetings, evaluate evidence, and issue rulings on motions.
• Provide written opinions and timely decisions to the Civil Service Commission.
