Qualifications

• Licensed attorney in good standing in Texas.
• Two+ years of experience in criminal law in Texas.
• Residency in Texas and in City of El Paso in the last 12 months.
• Knowledge of Texas State Law and City of El Paso ordinances governing misdemeanors; juvenile procedures.
• Ability to adjudicate a high volume of cases promptly and clearly explain pertinent legal information.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Substitute Associate Judge for Class C misdemeanors and magistrate duties.
• Attend scheduled trials, pretrial sessions, hearings, and other court proceedings.
• Act as magistrate for defendants arrested by El Paso police and other agencies; handle day/evening/holiday shifts.
• Explain charges, rights, rulings, and legal opinions to defendants and interested parties.
• Review documents to establish proof of legal compliance; record determinations of court.
