Job summary

Chenega Corporation seeks a Fire Captain to lead daily fire department operations, supervise personnel, and direct incident response. You will oversee training, readiness, and performance to ensure effective protection and safety during emergencies.

The role requires strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills, with duties including evaluating readiness, coordinating resources, and ensuring compliance with policies and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible fire service experience.
• DoD (IFSAC), Pro Board, or Mississippi State Fire Officer II certification.
• DoD (IFSAC), Pro Board, or Mississippi State Fire Instructor I certification.
• DoD (IFSAC), Pro Board, or Mississippi State Hazardous Materials Operations certification.
• NIMS IC-100, IC-200, IC-300, IC-400, IC-700, IC-800
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
• Able to direct personnel and make sound decisions in dynamic, high-pressure environments.
• Must obtain and maintain a Secret clearance and pass background/drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage daily fire department operations during assigned shifts.
• Establish operational priorities and ensure personnel, apparatus, and equipment are prepared for responses.
• Supervise emergency response activities including fire suppression, rescue, hazmat, EMS, and other incidents.
• Evaluate readiness and implement corrective actions for deficiencies and risks.
• Ensure compliance with departmental policies, safety standards, and guidelines.
• Respond to incidents as Incident Commander until transfer of command or resolution.
• Assess incident conditions, hazards, objectives, and direct resource deployment.
• Coordinate firefighting, rescue, and hazmat activities for safe outcomes.
• Ensure personnel accountability and adherence to safety practices.
• Coordinate with mutual aid, customers, contractors, and stakeholders as required.
• Provide supervision, leadership, and mentorship to Lieutenants, Firefighters, Drivers, and others.
• Assign work, set priorities, monitor performance, and ensure safe completion.
• Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and development guidance.
• Support employee engagement, succession planning, and workforce development.
• Participate in personnel selection, training recommendations, and disciplinary actions.
• Foster a professional environment emphasizing teamwork, accountability, diversity, and excellence.
