Job summary

Anoka County is seeking a Field Investigator to support forensic pathologists by performing death scene investigations, identifying decedents, notifying next of kin, and documenting evidence under Minnesota guidelines. Positions are part-time, temporary, non-exempt, on-call and located in multiple Minnesota counties.

On-call pay is $3.00/hour and $100 per scene, with $20/hour for trainings or approved time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years of job-related experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle available for business use.

Responsibilities

• Respond to death scenes in a timely manner, often on an on-call basis for a specific area.
• Communicate with and notify next of kin in a compassionate and professional manner.
• Make presumptive identification and take steps to facilitate positive identification.
• Obtain demographics, medical and social history through interviews and records.
• Make preliminary determination of cause and manner of death at scene and advise on jurisdiction.
• Document scene with photographs and notes, maintain chain of custody.
• Coordinate with law enforcement and other agencies on scene.
