Job summary

Anoka County is seeking Field Investigators to respond to death scenes, document findings, and assist forensic pathologists. The role requires careful scene management, compassionate communication with families, and coordination with law enforcement.

This is a part-time, on-call position across Minnesota counties. Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work under challenging conditions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of job-related experience.
• Equivalent education/experience considered on a year-for-year basis.
• Valid driver’s license and a vehicle for business use.
• Preferred degree in Physical/Social Sciences or Criminal Justice.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Responsibilities

• Respond to death scenes timely, often on-call for a specific area.
• Document scene with photos and notes; notify next of kin empathetically.
• Identify decedents and assist pathologists as needed.
• Collect, inventory and secure property/evidence with chain of custody.
• Coordinate with law enforcement and other agencies on scene.
• Prepare concise written reports and maintain confidentiality.
