Job summary

Qualifications

  • Ability to work and deploy during Hurricane Season 2026.
  • Degree: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year or more of direct disaster response or emergency management experience.
  • Willingness to deploy on short notice (often within 24-72 hours) and to remain on assignment away from home for a minimum of 30 consecutive days at a time.
  • Experience with EOC operations at the state and/or local level working in functional ICP positions such as Incident Commander, Operations Section Chief, Planning Section Chief, Logistics Section Chief, Finance/Administration Section Chief, Safety Officer, Public Information Officer, Liaison Officer, Resource Unit Leader, Situation Unit Leader, Communications Unit Leader, Staging Area Manager, Assistant PIO, Deputy Operations Section Chief.
  • Current ICS and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training.
  • Active Type 3 or higher qualification(s) through FEMA/NQS, AHIMT, NWCG or equivalent program.
  • Personnel with PTBs or equivalent qualifications.
  • Ability to meet and maintain all physical and medical standards for deployment.
  • Proficiency with standard office software to report and coordinate remotely when necessary.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain required security clearances or credentials if needed.
  • Preferred: Professional Certification including Project Management.

Responsibilities

  • Serve in a response capacity in a state or local Emergency Operations Center (EOC) or Joint Field Office (JFO).
  • Collaborate with federal, state, and local government agencies (and occasionally nonprofit organizations) to support disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery initiatives, including liaison between onsite field operations and EOC staff, preparing situation reports, refining plans, and meeting with community leaders to address urgent needs.
  • Perform rapid needs assessments in affected communities to identify critical priorities; coordinate allocation of resources and logistics to meet needs and fill staffing gaps; maintain proper chain-of-command communication.
  • Support human services missions such as emergency sheltering and mass care for displaced populations; ensure services are delivered effectively to diverse populations.
  • Leverage specialized technical skills to augment operations; may serve as SME or be embedded within a JFO or local EOC for specific needs.
  • Adapt to various roles and organizational structures as required, manage stakeholder relations, delegate tasks, monitor progress, and escalate issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through post-action reviews, debriefings, and documentation of best practices.
