Job summary

Marlborough Public Schools is seeking a Custodian Substitute for the 2026-2027 school year. The role supports maintaining the school plant and grounds to high standards, with an hourly pay of $18.50.

The substitute reports to the Head Custodian and Custodial Supervisor, and requires physical stamina, ability to lift over 40 pounds, and flexibility for varied shifts. Bilingual candidates (Spanish or Portuguese) are preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of custodial methods, materials and safety procedures.
• Ability to operate custodial equipment (vacuum cleaners, floor machines, etc.).
• Care of buildings and property (grounds, walks, shrubs).
• Skill in minor repairs and changing light bulbs.
• Knowledge of fire and accident prevention in public buildings.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions in English; bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, dust, scrub, mop, wax, polish and make minor repairs as required for floors and furnishings.
• Service, clean and supply restrooms.
• Maintain school grounds including mowing, edging, snow/ice removal.
• Gather and empty trash; address safety/security concerns; report as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned by the Principal, Head Custodian or Custodial Supervisor.
