Job summary

Thurston County is recruiting for Extra Help Court Security Officers to provide on-call security and screening for the Thurston County Courts and facilities. Officers operate screening stations, monitor alarms, respond to calls for assistance, and perform related security duties.

Positions are extra help, typically under 20 hours per week, may exceed 40 with staff absences, and not guaranteed regular hours. Work includes responding to alarms and providing escorts when necessary.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two years’ law enforcement or corrections experience.
• Graduate from a Washington State Basic or Reserve Law Enforcement Academy, Correctional Academy, or equivalent training from a certified law enforcement program; or federal law enforcement experience.

Responsibilities

• Secures weapons prior to persons entering the courthouse and ensures weapons are safely secured in lockers.
• Confiscates and seizing unauthorized weapons and processing them for criminal charges and/or destruction.
• Maintains accurate daily records of number of visitors entering the courthouse.
• Operates screening devices to check visitors for weapons and prohibited articles.
• Monitors court facilities via CCTV and intervene to prevent escalation of problems.

Education

Washington State Basic or Reserve Law Enforcement Academy

Correctional Academy

Federal law enforcement experience (e.g. Military Police)
