Job summary

Amador County is seeking an Extra Help Court Security Officer to maintain order, decorum and safety in the courthouse. The incumbent screens for prohibited items, operates security systems, and supports the court clerk to ensure orderly proceedings.

This non-benefited, up-to-999-hour-per-fiscal-year position requires knowledge of courtroom procedures, the ability to handle disruptions, and the capacity to manage jurors and witnesses under supervision.

Qualifications

• Two years of responsible experience in court security, peace officer, or court support with extensive public contact.
• California Driver's License required.
• Successful completion of Penal Code Section 832 training.
• Ability to interpret and apply court policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Advise all persons to cease conversation when the judge takes the bench.
• Announce the start or continuation of court sessions.
• Clear courtroom of third parties during confidential hearings and admonish disruptions.
• Summon jurors and manage them during deliberations or absence.
• Summon witnesses and provide clerical support to the courtroom clerk.
• Maintain safety, order and decorum in the courtroom.
• Operate security screening equipment such as metal detectors and x-ray devices.
• Observe court security cameras and operate security doors remotely or manually.
• Complete security logs and reports; respond to disturbances or emergencies, perform situational assessments, and request resources.
