Job summary

King and Queen County Sheriff's Office seeks a Court Services Deputy to help keep the peace in the courthouse and handle security for courtroom operations. The role includes transporting prisoners and ensuring safety for judges, staff, and the public.

This is a sworn, non-exempt part-time position (24–29 hours per week) with no benefits. A take-home vehicle may be provided if you meet 75% of callouts and you live in the county or have a waiver.

Qualifications

• 20 years 6 months of age or older
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid Virginia Driver’s License
• Court Security/Civil Process certification with jail or Law Enforcement certification within 1 year

Responsibilities

• Keep judges, judicial staff, court employees and the public safe
• Transport prisoners to the courthouse and back to the jail facility
• Transfer prisoners to the courtroom and back to designated cell
• Supervise work release inmates
• Ensure no weapons are brought into the courtroom and public compliance with safety rules
• Transfer of papers to judges and case participants when needed
• Remove individuals from the courtroom as required
• Manage metal detectors and search individuals prior to entry
• Monitor for suspicious activity in court and courthouse
• Maintain order in the courtroom
• Assist with serving civil papers, warrants and making arrests as needed
• Provide security for prisoners/detainees for mental evaluations under ECOs or TDOs
• Take-home car eligibility requires 75% callouts; must reside in county or have waiver
