Job summary

Café Services is seeking an On-Call / Substitute Cook for corporate dining. This role supports coverage when kitchen staff are absent, with standard cafe hours Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The position is on an as-needed basis, offering culinary duties and a flexible schedule.

You’ll prepare fresh, high-quality food, assist with kitchen operations, and step into the team when coverage is required. Prior commercial cooking and food safety knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous commercial cooking or comparable food service experience.
• Ability to work independently with limited direction.
• Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, sanitation, and temperatures.
• Food handler or food safety certification as required; ServSafe certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook menu items according to recipes, production plans, portion standards and presentation expectations.
• Provide culinary coverage for call-outs, planned absences, and temporary staffing needs.
• Set up and maintain assigned cooking stations for efficient meal service.
• Monitor food quality, temperatures, presentation and availability throughout service.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, allergen and workplace safety standards.
• Complete required temperature logs, cleaning duties and production documentation.
• Safely operate commercial kitchen equipment including grills, ovens and fryers.
• Assist with cleaning, stocking, receiving and other kitchen duties as needed.
• Work cooperatively with café managers and team members to support a smooth guest experience.

About the Role

Looking for a flexible culinary opportunity that fits around your schedule? Café Services is seeking an experienced On-Call / Substitute Cook to provide coverage when additional kitchen support is needed.

This position works on an as-needed basis to help cover employee absences, scheduled time off, special events, or other temporary staffing needs. You’ll prepare fresh, high-quality food, support smooth kitchen operations, and step into the café team when coverage is needed.

Hours and assignments will vary based on business needs. Our standard cafe hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00AM - 3:00PM.

• Food handler or food safety certification as required; ServSafe certification preferred.
• Dependable and able to respond to available shifts based on business needs.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift or move food, supplies, pans, and equipment weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.
