Job summary

Chatham County, NC is seeking an experienced social worker to serve as the primary after-hours point of contact for CPS reports. The role requires handling evening, overnight, and holiday shifts while coordinating with a supportive team to ensure child safety.

Responsibilities include screening reports, initiating assessments, conducting home visits, and preparing court documentation. A Master’s in Social Work or equivalent is preferred, with strong communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of child welfare policy and procedures including abuse, neglect and dependency.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload in a dynamic environment.
• Flexibility to work evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays as needed.
• Experience documenting assessments and court-related reports.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Receive CPS/APS reports after-hours and screen with supervisor on-call.
• Initiate assessments and investigations within NC policy timelines.
• Conduct home visits and assess family safety and risks.
• Prepare court reports and testify as needed.
• Enter documentation in CWIS and coordinate with other counties/states.
• Participate in on-call rotation and shelter operations as required.
• Collaborate with community agencies to address identified safety issues.
