Job summary

Chatham County Department of Social Services seeks an on-call Social Worker for the Family Services division. The role handles CPS reports after hours, with a Monday–Friday core day starting 4:00 PM, including evenings, overnights, and holidays.

Responsibilities include screening, assessments, home visits, and court-related duties to safeguard children. Requires a MSW or related degree (or equivalent) and strong knowledge of child welfare policy, documentation, and collaboration with agencies.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work or related field, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Knowledge of child welfare policy, intake policy, and assessment/Investigation processes.
• Ability to work evenings, overnight and holidays as scheduled.
• Strong documentation and ability to testify in court when required.

Responsibilities

• Receive CPS/APS reports, screen with supervisor, and initiate assessments or investigations.
• Conduct home visits and assess child safety and family needs.
• Prepare court reports and participate in court proceedings as needed.
• Document case activities thoroughly in required systems and timeframes.
• Participate in after-hours on-call rotation and collaborate with partner agencies.
