Job summary

McDowell County is seeking a professional social worker to handle advanced casework for at-risk children. The role involves protective services, investigations, counseling and coordinating foster care or residential placements.

You may work on complex cases within a multidisciplinary team. The position includes on-call coverage Monday–Thursday evenings into the next morning, with weekend transitions as needed.

Qualifications

• Master of Social Work degree required from an accredited school; one year social work experience.
• Bachelor's in social work with two years social work or counseling experience.
• Master's in a counseling field with two years social work or counseling experience.
• Four-year degree in a human services field with three years social work or counseling experience.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Investigate alleged neglect and abuse and substantiate findings per laws.
• Provide treatment in group, family or individual therapy as needed.
• Offer crisis intervention and referrals for treatment and placement.
• Provide expert testimony in court hearings when required.
• Coordinate case management and preventive services for clients.
