Job summary

McDowell County is seeking a Social Work Supervisor for Child Protective Services to provide direct supervision and administrative oversight of CPS staff. The role focuses on child safety, permanency, and well‑being, guiding staff through complex cases and ensuring compliance with federal and state laws.

The supervisor will work with the Program Manager to implement priorities, monitor service delivery, and maintain professional standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in social work or equivalent per NC requirements.
Experience in child welfare, CPS, or related social services.
Ability to evaluate complex case information and exercise sound professional judgment.

Responsibilities

Supervise CPS staff and provide coaching, guidance, and evaluation.
Review case plans, safety plans, and documentation within authority.
Monitor workload, performance metrics, and ensure timeliness and quality.
Collaborate with Program Manager to implement program priorities and improvements.
Ensure compliance with NC laws, DHHS requirements, and confidentiality standards.
Coordinate with courts, law enforcement, GAL, and community partners.
Engage in multidisciplinary staffings, family meetings, and court proceedings.
