Job summary

CHARLES WRIGHT ACADEMY on-call bus driver position in Tacoma, WA. Drive a school bus route to transport students and authorized persons to and from school, with additional trips for field trips when designated on an On Call basis.

Requires WA CDL with school bus and passenger endorsements, current Medical Examiners Certificate and first aid certification, and a clean driving record. Hours typically 5:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. when called.

Qualifications

• High school diploma is required.
• Valid Washington State Commercial Driver's License with school bus and passenger endorsements.
• Current Medical Examiners Certificate and first aid certification.
• Driving record free of chargeable accidents or traffic violations.

Responsibilities

• Drive a bus route to transport students and other authorized persons to and from school.
• Perform additional driving for field trips or other extra trips as designated on an On Call basis.
• Maintain discipline of students and report misbehavior.
• Check vehicle equipment and fuel prior to each departure; report irregularities.
• Maintain safety standards and complete pre-trip reports.
• Attend bus driver safety meetings and training as scheduled by the Transportation Manager.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: On Call Bus Driver

REPORTS TO: Transportation Manager

SUPERVISES: N/A

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt/Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY

Drive a bus route to transport students and other authorized persons to and from school, as well as additional driving for field trips or other extra trips as designated on an "On Call" bassis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Maintain discipline of students and report misbehavior.
• Check vehicle equipment, and fuel prior to each departure; report and document any irregularities or trouble with equipment.
• Maintain consistent safety standards and pre-trip reports.
• Participate in bus driver safety meetings, training courses as scheduled by the Transportation Manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma is required.
• Valid Washington State Commercial Driver's License with school bus and passenger endorsements; current Medical Examiners Certificate and first aid certification; and driving record free of chargeable accidents or traffic violations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous experience as a bus driver or in the transportation field.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Good communication skills to build rapport with students and parents.
• Must be able to remain in stationary position more than 50% of the time.

TRAVEL: Drive a bus route to transport students "On Call". Additional driving for field trips as designated.

HOURS: On-Call/10 months per year

Approx. 5:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. when called in to cover.

PAY: $26.00 - $30.00
