Job summary

Harvard University Ombuds Office in Cambridge seeks an Ombuds I to join its team. This term position through June 2028 offers a hybrid work arrangement and opportunities to engage in dispute resolution, policy analysis, and staff development across Harvard-connected constituencies.

The role emphasizes confidentiality, impartiality, and professional conduct, with responsibilities spanning consultation, training, and collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum five years demonstrated experience in ombudsing, conflict resolution, mediation and/or negotiation or related field.
• Demonstrated experience in designing (including relevant computer skills) and conducting trainings.

Responsibilities

• Dispute Resolution Consultation/Referral: assist visitors in identifying concerns, goals, and options; clarify policies as needed; conduct informal fact-finding; provide conflict coaching, mediation, and group facilitation.
• Community Outreach and Education: provide ongoing education about the Ombuds Office and its role; conduct trainings; design and conduct new trainings on negotiation and conflict resolution.
• Policy Analysis: serve as a campus resource for policy development and provide non-identifying statistics for reports.
• Professionalism/Office Integrity: uphold confidentiality, impartiality, independence, and informality; respond timely and with respect; foster a safe environment; collaborate with the team and manage scheduling and materials.
