Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks an Oil and Gas Inspector to monitor oil and gas activities for safety, compliance, and environmental protection across an assigned area. You will perform field inspections, investigate complaints, and support enforcement actions while reviewing technical records and data.

The role offers full-time hours (8:00 AM–4:00 PM) with possible telework to home locations inside Pennsylvania; a starting salary of $60,538 and a clear path for growth within DEP's Oil & Gas

Qualifications

• Three years of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry.
• An associate's degree in Petroleum Technology or closely related field, and one year of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Field Inspections: Conduct routine inspections of oil and gas wells and related facilities to confirm compliance with laws and regulations.
• Complaint Response: Investigate citizen complaints related to environmental or safety concerns and document findings through established reporting methods.
• Enforcement Actions: Initiate and support enforcement measures by issuing notices, preparing case materials, and assisting in legal proceedings.
• Technical Review: Evaluate well records, reports, and logs to provide recommendations and ensure accurate interpretation of technical information.
• Sampling and Monitoring: Collect samples, operate gas detection instruments, and document data to support investigations and safety assessments.
• Record Management: Maintain accurate electronic records, case files, photographs, and other documentation to support compliance and enforcement work.
