Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a Water Quality Specialist to monitor oil and gas activities and ensure compliance with environmental laws. The role includes inspections, data entry, investigations, and reviewing plans, with telework possibilities and a standard full-time schedule.

Responsibilities include site inspections, complaint response, data management, enforcement support, plan review, and equipment operation.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the training program for the Water Quality Specialist Trainee; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which affords the applicant the required knowledges and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Site inspections of oil and gas facilities to check compliance with environmental laws
• Investigate citizen reports of environmental impacts and collect field samples
• Input and maintain accurate environmental data in Department systems
• Assist in preparing documentation and evidence for enforcement actions
• Review environmental plans and documents submitted by operators
• Operate and maintain scientific instruments during investigations
