Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, via the Oil and Gas Program Specialist role within the Department of Environmental Protection, offers a full-time opportunity to support statewide oil and gas programs. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biological, physical, or environmental sciences or closely related field.
  • Three years of professional environmental protection experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or four years of technical oil/gas experience.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and training accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Grant Programs for orphan and marginal well projects.
  • Review wells based on environmental needs and methane emission information.
  • Support monitoring efforts with methane screening and verification activities.

Job description

The Oil and Gas Program Specialist position with the Department of Environmental Protection offers a chance to support important environmental programs across the state. This role allows you to help guide projects that improve safety and protect natural resources. You will work with different groups to share information and promote responsible practices. This position provides meaningful experience for anyone motivated to help safeguard the environment.

This position supports the planning, review, and outreach activities of statewide oil and gas programs. As a Oil and Gas Program Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Coordinate Grant Programs: Manage planning, review and logistics for orphan well and marginal well projects
  • Review Applications: Evaluate wells based on environmental needs and methane emission information
  • Support Monitoring Efforts: Organize methane screening and verification activities for eligible wells
  • Create Program Materials: Develop publications, guidance documents, and training content for outreach
  • Evaluate Projects: Assess agency programs to determine progress toward goals

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will have the option to work from one of the following headquarter offices:

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience as an Environmental Protection Specialist or Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience as an Oil and Gas Inspector, Water Quality Specialist, or Solid Waste Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of professional environmental protection experience and a bachelor's degree in biological, physical, or environmental sciences, or closely related field; or
  • Three years of professional environmental protection experience and four years of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license
