Under supervision, you will assist legal secretaries by preparing documents for court filings, performing scanning, transcription, typing, and document editing tasks.

Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat, ProLaw, and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) is expected, with responsibilities including case file opening/closing and coordinating with other units.

Responsibilities

Job description

Are you currently looking for an entry-level position in a highly regarded department? The Department of Justice Legal Support Operations is currently seeking a well-rounded, friendly individual to fill our Office Technician (Typing) Team Support position.

Under the immediate supervision of a Legal Support Supervisor I (LSSI), the Office Technician will assist legal secretaries in preparing documents in accordance with ProLaw for court filing. Duties include scanning, transcribing, typing, processing, storing, retrieving, verifying and editing legal documents and correspondence, such as, petitions, briefs, opinions, pleadings, motions, and related legal documents, as well as preparing exhibit tabs. The Office Technician will also aid in Bates numbering and indexing complex cases, photocopying and faxing documents, preparing envelopes and labels, and arranging messenger and shipping services.

This role requires independently and proactively completing tasks that are often of a confidential nature. The ideal candidate will proficiently operate computer programs such as Adobe Acrobat, ProLaw, and Microsoft Office applications (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams), and will assist in opening and closing case files while coordinating with other work units. Lifting boxes up to 25 pounds may be required.

Prior experience working in a law office and familiarity with ProLaw or a comparable case management software is preferred.
