Job summary

University of Utah is seeking an Office Assistant for the English Department in Salt Lake City. The part-time, temporary position greets visitors, assists faculty, staff, and students, manages social media, and provides general office support.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and demonstrated customer service and communication skills, with familiarity with Adobe products and Microsoft Office preferred. Work-study eligibility applies.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Serve at front desk as face of the department. Represent the department in a professional and welcoming manner, greet visitors, and handle requests.
  • Maintain the office space, including break areas and student lounge. Oversee office supplies and needs. Keep the kitchen and lounge areas stocked.
  • Manage department social media. Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and College of Humanities social media facilitators to promote events, news, and highlights.
  • Assist staff and faculty in scheduling, organizing, and promoting department events.
  • Keep schedules for classes, department meetings, and events. Help schedule rooms.
  • Assist in office organization, including the upkeep of faculty and student mailboxes and department announcement spaces. Ensure daily collection and distribution of mail.
  • Answer or forward any questions related to registration, courses, faculty information, graduate admissions, advising appointments, etc.
  • Assist faculty and staff with copy and scanning needs. Oversee the maintenance of the copier and copy room.
  • Work with staff to assist in their assignments. Direct students to appropriate staff.
  • Be willing to expand this role and take on new responsibilities to include, but not to be limited to, minor accounting-related activities.

Minimum Qualifications
