Job summary

IAC Group in Anniston, AL is seeking a skilled Tool Room/Mold Technician to support set-ups, repairs and maintenance of injection molds and related tooling. You will operate basic shop equipment, read blueprints, and follow safety procedures while assisting senior technicians.

Responsibilities include disassembling, assembling, repairing and polishing molds, performing mold maintenance, and using precision measuring tools. Evening/overtime flexibility may be required.

Qualifications

• Reads and writes English; follows safety rules and blueprints.
• Uses precision measuring tools and basic shop math.
• Must have hands-on injection mold experience (3+ yrs).
• Strong mechanical knowledge; crane experience a must (2+ yrs).
• Machining capabilities with milling, lathe and surface grinders mandatory.
• Experience with electrical and hydraulic systems preferred.
• Welding (Tig) required; flexibility for overtime/call-ins.

Responsibilities

• Operate crane and forklift safely.
• Disassemble, assemble, inspect, clean and polish molds; careful on critical surfaces.
• Disassemble/repair hot runner and hydraulic molds with electrical/hydraulic diagrams.
• Reassemble and rewire molds.
• Machine components with lathe, mill, and surface grinders.
• Read micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools.
• Perform mold repair work with hand tools; supervised by senior tech.
• Construct and rework machine parts with hand tools.
• Weld spot molds and related projects.
• Assist senior tooling tech on setups and operations.
• Fill out PM records and follow PM schedules.
• Maintain inventory of Tool Room PM components and supplies.
• Observe all health and safety rules; keep work area tidy.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Summary:

Sets up and operates, with assistance, a variety of machines common to the trade by performing the following duties.

Duties:

1. Operate crane and forklift safely
2. Disassembles, assembles, inspects, cleans and polishes molds. Use skill and care when polishing critical surfaces.
3. Disassembles and repairs Hot Runner and hydraulic actuated molds. Must be familiar with electrical and hydraulic circuits using diagrams, blueprints and electrical circuit test meters and methods.
4. Reassemble and rewire molds.
5. Execute lathe, mill and surface grinders machining components.
6. Ability to read micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools.
7. Performs mold repair work with hand tools, hand grinders, and stones supervised by Sr. tooling tech or onsite toolmaker.
8. Reworks and constructs machine parts with hand tools.
9. Weld spot molds and other projects as needed.
10. Assists Sr. tooling tech or onsite toolmaker on set ups and operations as needed.
11. Fill out PM records
12. Understand PM schedule for timely scheduled maintenance
13. Maintains inventory of Tool Room PM components and supplies.
14. Observes all health and safety requirements and maintains work area in a neat and orderly condition.
15. All other duties as assigned.

Skills:

• LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and write English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and blueprint readings.
• MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to use precision measuring instruments and ability to use advanced shop math
• OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Computer experience required to maintain mold status. Must have the ability to get along with coworkers and work in a team environment. Detail oriented.
• Minimum of 3 years experience being involved/hands on with Injection Molds.
• Strong Mechanical knowledge. 2 Years Crane experience a must.
• Machining capabilities is required (Manual Milling Machines, Manual Lathes and surface grinding )
• Experience with Electrical and Hydraulics.
• Tig Welding is required. Hours must be flexible, Overtime and call-ins maybe required.

Physical Demands:

The following are the physical demand for the Tool Room Department; must be able to lift at the minimum of at least 50lbs. off the ground; must be able to work on feet for majority of an 8 hour shift; must be able to wear safety glasses where required and walk and climb stairs.
