Job summary

Mercor is seeking a native Odiya speaker to annotate and transcribe complex documents in Odiya script. You will bound regions, establish reading order, and ensure character-level accuracy on handwritten and scanned pages.

This role emphasizes meticulous work, strict taxonomy, and collaboration with a second expert reviewer. You will work on real published documents, including newspapers and forms, using precise OCR-corrected transcription and metadata capture.

Qualifications

• Native Odiya speaker with full command of the script, including diacritics and conjunct forms.
• Extremely high level of accuracy; character-level transcription is essential.
• Experience with document annotation, transcription, localization, or related language data review is a plus.
• Systematic and consistent in applying a taxonomy across pages, even with unfamiliar layouts.

Responsibilities

• Open and check a task: ensure the page is in Odiya, legible, contains real content, and has no personal details.
• Annotate structure: bound every meaningful region and assign a type and reading-order index.
• Record relationships: link regions to their parent figure/table when applicable.
• Transcribe faithfully: reproduce all text exactly as it appears in Odiya script.
• Capture page metadata: language, document type, source, and handwriting/formatting flags.
• Review a colleague's work: undergo second-expert review as part of the process.
