Job summary

Naval Oceanographic Office seeks an Interdisciplinary Mechanical/Electronics Engineer in the Ocean Collections Division at Stennis Space Center, Mississippi. The role supports the AUV Engineering Branch and Ocean Projects Department, providing technical direction for survey systems and related platforms, ashore and in the field.

The position requires evaluating technical data, coordinating with engineering teams, and ensuring operations meet mission objectives.

Qualifications

  • Degree:Engineering program accredited by ABET or equivalent with required calculus and engineering science courses.
  • Combination of education and experience with professional engineering knowledge and practical application.
  • Professional registration or licensure (EI/EIT or PE) or evidence of passing FE exam or equivalent.
  • Experience with oceanographic or hydrographic data collection systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage resources for current and future scientific and technical projects.
  • Communicate effectively and persuasively, both orally and in writing.
  • Set the overall technical objectives and guidance for the planned workload.
  • Collaborate with survey heads and engineering groups to coordinate work and implement changes.
  • Plan and direct engineering efforts in support of maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of survey systems.
  • Monitor operational condition status, address deficiencies, and advise project managers on problem areas.
