Job summary

Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) seeks an attorney with 2-5 years of experience to join the Ocean Conservation team in Boston, MA (preferred). The role supports sustainable fisheries, marine biodiversity, and ocean planning through litigation, policy work, and outreach.

This term-limited position (2.5 years) aims to grow attorney talent in ocean law, with opportunities to influence regional and national policy and build cross-organizational networks.

Qualifications

• A law degree and active bar membership in good standing in any state or the District of Columbia (New England state is preferred).
• At least 2 years of relevant experience practicing in ocean law and policy or other relevant area of law; direct ocean law experience encouraged.
• Passion and commitment to the environment, public health, and/or social justice.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to put analysis into writing that is easily understood.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to take initiative, solve problems, and manage multiple activities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Devise and execute legal and policy strategies for CLF’s advocacy goals related to sustainable fisheries and ocean protection.
• Represent CLF in litigation and administrative proceedings.
• Comment on administrative rules, state and federal permits, and other agency actions.
• Advise community and advocacy groups on legal and policy matters.
• Coordinate with partners to develop long-term ocean conservation initiatives and policy strategies.
• Build alliances and coalitions among environmental stakeholders and others.
• Write public educational materials, articles, and op-eds; communicate advocacy work through media outlets.
• Contribute to CLF’s strategic priorities and organizational excellence.
• Assist Communications in delivering advocacy news and messages to the press and the public.
• Prepare research reports, memos, and presentations.
