Job summary

The City of Deerfield Beach is seeking an Ocean Rescue Lifeguard to provide specialized rescue services at assigned public beaches and to protect lives by enforcing swimming regulations. The role operates independently with limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Minimum requirements include a HS diploma or GED, a valid Florida driver’s license, CPR and First Aid certifications, and the ability to pass swim/rescue tests.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving history.
• CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Must pass swimming and rescue skills tests.
• Enrollment in a First Responder course by probation completion.
• Preferred: Completion of 40-hour USLA Lifeguard Training Course or must complete training upon initial hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized ocean rescue service at assigned public beaches and protect lives.
• Enforce swimming regulations and maintain safety on the beaches.
• Rescue individuals in distress and administer first aid when necessary.
• Work independently with limited supervision and report major activities regularly.
